How to set up GleSYS VPN (L2TP-over-IPsec) on macOS

Introduction

You first need to create a VPN account to set up a VPN tunnel. In our control panel, go to the project you want to create a VPN user for. Go to More services, VPN users and press Create VPN. Enter a username (starting with clxxxxx_) and set a password there.

Create a VPN profile

Start by opening the network settings (click on the apple at the top left of the screen, select System settings followed by Network). Click on the button with the three dots, select Add VPN Configuration, and select L2TP over IPsec.

Select a Display Name and enter pptp.glesys.com as the Server address. Then fill in the Account Name you created in the control panel. User Authentication should be Password, then enter the password you chose for your VPN account. For Machine Authentication, select Shared Secret and fill in GleSYS. Before you click create, let's set up one more thing.

Click on Options in the top left corner. To force all traffic through the VPN tunnel, we tick Send all traffic over VPN connection. Then click on Create.

Now you are done with the configuration. Click the slider next to GleSYS L2TP VPN to activate the VPN tunnel.

If you are a GleSYS dedicated and colocation server customer: When connected to the VPN, you can now use the IPMI credentials provided to access your servers remotely, securely from anywhere.
